Step Number 1 Dealer Surety Bond and Insurance
You must obtain a dealer surety bond and insurance in order
to obtain an Mississippi dealers license. I always recommend
this as the first step in obtaining a Mississippi dealers
license. The cost of a dealer surety bond is based on your
credit score and the cost of your insurance is based upon
your driving record. I am often asked what it costs to
obtain a Mississippi dealers license and I can never answer
that question accurately because the total cost will depend
on your credit score and your driving record.
The State of Mississippi requires you to obtain a $15,000
dealer surety bond in order to be granted a Mississipp
idealers license, is the bond going to cost you $15,000, of
course not, with good credit you should be spending about
100 to 200 dollars a year for your bond, your insurance
company will normally send you an invoice every year or
every other year. If you have a couple of blemishes on your
credit score, the price of your bond can increase
dramatically. The bond must be a surety bond eecuted by an
insurance or bonding company authorized to do business in
Indiana,
You must also obtain a special insurance policy before the
State of Mississippi will allow you to have a dealers
license. Your insurance policy pricing will be dependent on
your driving record so if you have a really bad driving
record, you might pay a lot more for your insurance. You
must also obtain an insurance policy that will cover the
vehicles that are in your inventory. The State of
Mississippi requires every vehicle driven on any roadway in
the state to have insurance, including the vehicles in your
inventory when they are being test driven by your customers.

The dealer shall conduct business in a building on the same
property as the display lot. If the dealer is a used car
broker, and will not display an inventory of vehicles for
sale, the requirements of this rule for an established place

If you want to become a
car dealer in Mississippi, you will need to
obtain a dealer license. Here is a step-by-step
guide on how to do so:
Meet the requirements: To be eligible for a
dealer license in Mississippi, you must be at
least 18 years old and have a valid Mississippi
driver's license. You also need to have a
physical location for your dealership, such as
a showroom or lot, where you will display and
sell your vehicles.
Obtain a surety bond: In Mississippi, car
dealers are required to have a surety bond in
the amount of $50,000. This bond protects
consumers by providing them with a financial
recourse if you fail to follow the terms of
your dealer license or engage in fraudulent
activity. You can obtain a surety bond from a
bonding company or an insurance agency.
Complete the application: Once you have met the
requirements and obtained a surety bond, you
can apply for a dealer license by completing
the "Application for Dealer License" form,
which is available on the Mississippi
Department of Revenue's website. This form asks
for basic information about you and your
dealership, including your name, address, and
the types of vehicles you plan to sell.
Submit the application and supporting
documents: Along with your completed
application form, you will need to submit the
following documents:
A copy of your Mississippi driver's license
A copy of your surety bond
Proof of ownership of your dealership location
Proof of liability insurance
A list of the vehicles you currently have in
inventory
Pay the fees: There is a $100 fee to apply for
a dealer license in Mississippi. You will also
need to pay a $50 fee for each dealer plate you
wish to obtain.
Attend a dealer education course: Mississippi
requires all new dealers to attend a dealer
education course. This course covers topics
such as state and federal laws related to car
dealerships, ethical practices, and consumer
protection. You can find a list of approved
dealer education providers on the Mississippi
Department of Revenue's website.
Pass an inspection: Before your dealer license
can be issued, an inspector from the
Mississippi Department of Revenue will visit
your dealership location to ensure it meets all
of the state's requirements. This includes
checking for adequate space to display and sell
vehicles, as well as ensuring that you have the
necessary equipment and supplies for conducting
business.
Once you have completed all of these steps, you
can expect to receive your dealer license
within a few weeks. Keep in mind that you will
need to renew your license annually, and you
may be required to complete additional training
or meet other requirements to maintain your
license.
